Craft: Knitting

Marla and Sami Collection

Marla is made from 2 strands of lighter-weight yarn that have been dyed separately and then plied together. When worked, Marla creates a marled fabric, where the colors are uniquely distributed. Sami, the semi-solid DK-weight sister to Marla, has a palette of 11 coordinating colors!

Double knitting: it’s twice as warm because it’s two hats in one! One one side, Sami dominates; on the other side, Marla. The checkerboard pattern is made easy with the use of plenty of ring markers and ends before the crown shaping. If double knitting is a new technique for you, don’t worry: as long as you’ve made a hat before, this is a good first project.
