Staccato peaks of color iterate across the smooth plane of the Otte hat. Evoking wintery adventures and pristine mountain ranges, this stranded hat offers ample opportunity for creative colorplay in Arbor’s gem-toned palette. Circularly knit from brim to crown, choose to emphasize an inner chevron of sharp contrast or engage with gradients for a softer look.

Construction

• The hat is worked circularly from the bottom up.
• The crown is shaped with concentric rings of decreases.
• The colorwork section is charted in four colors but can easily be worked in as many colors as you like.
• Pattern includes instructions for optional seven-color version.

Finished Dimensions

• 21¾”/55 cm circumference; 8¼”/21 cm length
• Hat is sized to fit head sizes ranging from 20-23”/51-58.5 cm circumference

Brooklyn Tweed Arbor — 100% American Targhee Wool (145 yards/132 meters per 50 grams)

• 1 skein each of Main Color (MC), Color 1 (C1), Color 2 (C2), Color 3 (C3)
• Photographed in colors Dorado (MC), Lovat (C1), Thaw (C2), and Butte (C3)

Yardage

• 65 yards/60 meters MC; 30 yards/28 meters C1; 40 yards/37 meters C2; 15 yards/14 meters C3 in DK weight wool yarn

Gauge

• 22 stitches & 26 rounds = 4”/10 cm in stranded stockinette stitch with Size A needle(s), after blocking
• 22 stitches & 32 rounds = 4”/10 cm in stockinette stitch with Size A needle(s), after blocking

Needles

Size A (for Main Fabric)

• One 16”/40 cm circular needle and one set of double-pointed needles (DPNs) in size needed to obtain gauge listed
• Suggested Size: 4.5 mm (US 7)

Size B (for Ribbing)

• One 16”/40 cm circular needle, three sizes smaller than Size A
• Suggested Size: 3.5 mm (US 4)
