So many new techniques in such a small space! Knitting mittens from the fingertips to the cuff will introduce you to Judy’s Magic Cast-On, an afterthought thumb, picking up stitches to add a ribbed cuff below a rolled edge, and a sewn bind-off. The fingertips and cuffs make use of our Bocados (25g mini-skeins of Alegria Grande) for maximum color-play.

Finished Measurements

7 (8)” hand circumference and 9½ (10)” total length

Manos del Uruguay ALEGRIA GRANDE (75% superwash merino, 25% polyamide; approx. 197 yds / 180m per
3.5 oz / 100g), 1 sk A for both sizes,

Manos del Uruguay ALEGRIA GRANDE BOCADOS (75% superwash merino wool, 25% polyamide; approx. 49 yds/25 g): 1 sk each of B and C for both sizes.

18 sts and 27 rnds = 4”/10cm in St st using larger needles.

Notes

Both mittens are identical and can be worn on either hand.

Each mitten is worked from the finger tips down to the cuff. When the upper hand reaches the top of the thumb joint, the stitches for the thumb gusset are added using waste yarn, and the lower hand is worked down to the cuff with decreases to shape the top-down thumb gusset. The thumb stitches are worked upwards from the waste yarn to the thumb tip.
