Craft: Knitting
This pattern is available on Ravelry.
We designed the Interval Shawl to be the perfect “first shawl” pattern for a new knitter using only basic techniques: the knit stitch, the purl stitch and the knit-front-and-back increase. The pattern also features a simple provisional cast on with links to a video tutorial demonstrating this technique.
The shawl is worked in two sections — the first, a textured garter dash pattern, followed by a border section worked using garter stitch ridges. Three basic sizes have been provided within the pattern, though the shawl’s modular design allows as many or as few repeats of Section 1 and Section 2 as you like, enabling easy customization of the finished size.
We combined stitch patterns and fabric gauge specifically for the DK-weight Targhee Wool, Arbor; the yarn’s three-ply construction and smooth twist lend crisp stitch definition to the clean lines of the design. Interval is equally lovely in the wool-cotton yarn, Dapple. At a relaxed gauge of 5 stitches-per-inch, the finished shawl is a great mid-weight fabric for neckwear that keeps you toasty but doesn’t overwhelm.
