Bract

Architectural colorplay and modest shaping in the Bract pullover pay homage to handcrafted antique armor, in which plates are laced together creating curved bands of repeating shapes. Bract features a deep yoke coupled with slender sleeves, adding drama to this sweater’s simple construction. Worked in woolen-spun Loft yarn, Bract exudes modern elegance and coziness that flatters.

The body and sleeves are worked circularly from the bottom up and joined at the underarms. The yoke is then worked circularly up to the neck. Short Rows: Sunday Method are used to shape the upper back and back neck.

• Brooklyn Tweed Loft (100% American Targhee-Columbia Wool; 275 yards/50 grams)

Gauge

• 22 stitches & 34 rounds = 4” in stockinette stitch with Size A needle, after blocking
• 22 stitches & 27 rounds = 4” in charted colorwork with Size B needle, after blocking
• 24 stitches & 40 rounds = 4” in garter stitch with Size C needle, after blocking

Needles

Size A (for Single-Color Stockinette Stitch)

• One each 16”, 24”, and 32” circular needles and one set of double-pointed needles (DPNs) in size needed to obtain gauge listed
• Suggested Size: 3.75 mm (US 5)

Size B (for Charted Colorwork)

• One each 24” and 32” circular needles, in size needed to obtain gauge listed
• Suggested Size: 4.5 mm (US 7)

Size C (for Garter Stitch)

• One each 16” and 32” circular needles and one set of double-pointed needles (DPNs), in size needed to obtain gauge listed

Note that this is a very loose-fitting garment. The wearer’s bust will fall approximately at the base of the colorwork yoke section.
